Cyber FX Studio

Retro-futuristic image effects and privacy tools: CRT glitch, Matrix ASCII art, pseudo-3D device mockups, a destructive privacy redactor and a multi-algorithm dither studio — all canvas-based and fully offline.

Drag on the image to cover sensitive areas. Redaction is destructive in the exported file — the original pixels are replaced.

Engineering Breakdown

The CRT pipeline works on raw ImageData: optional pixelation by down- and up-sampling, seeded random horizontal slice displacement for glitches (a Mulberry32 PRNG makes each seed repeatable), duotone / threshold / invert colour mapping, chromatic aberration by sampling the red channel from the left and the blue channel from the right, film grain, a barrel-distortion remap for screen curvature, then scanline and radial-vignette overlays. The ASCII generator shrinks the image to one pixel per character cell (with a 0.5 aspect correction for tall glyphs), maps luminance to a character ramp, and paints each cell in green, source colour or white. The 3D mockup renders a flat device bitmap and re-projects it in 2-pixel vertical strips using rotation about the Y axis and perspective division, giving a true foreshortened look without WebGL. The redactor replaces pixels in the exported canvas with solid black, a down-sampled blur or a pixelation, so the original data is not recoverable from the output file. The dither studio quantises to a palette using Floyd–Steinberg or Atkinson error diffusion, a 4×4 Bayer ordered matrix, or a plain threshold.

How to use it in 3 steps

  1. Drop an image once — every tab uses it (a demo image loads automatically).
  2. Tune the sliders and options for the effect, mockup, redaction or dither style you want, watching the live preview.
  3. Export a PNG, or copy / download the ASCII text.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a CRT or VHS glitch effect on a photo?

Open the CRT / Glitch tab, raise scanlines, RGB split and glitch slices, and optionally add curvature and grain. Click New glitch seed for a different random glitch layout, then export the PNG.

Does the privacy redactor really remove the hidden data?

Yes. The exported PNG is a flat canvas bitmap where the selected areas have been overwritten by black, blurred or pixelated pixels. No layers or original data are kept in the file.

What is dithering used for?

Dithering simulates more tones using a limited palette by distributing quantisation error across neighbouring pixels. It gives images a retro 1-bit, Game Boy or newspaper look.

Is the 3D mockup real 3D?

It is a pseudo-3D projection computed on a 2D canvas: the device is rotated about its vertical axis and drawn in thin perspective-scaled strips. It needs no WebGL and exports a regular PNG.

Are my images uploaded?

No. All effects run on canvas elements inside your browser tab.
